Imagine this is a football field. Tactical advantages would be in possession of the ball in the opponent’s half. Tactical gains would be goals. A goal is important in football, but only winning more goals than the opposition delivers the outcome of winning the game. When you are in the “unfavourable outcomes” area, this is the opponent driving the agenda and more defensive play is called for, or hoping the opponent will make a mistake. By visualising where we are just now across time, we see the strategic journey which supports the outcome delivery and can view decision making and risk in context.
